Nine clubs have won the Ghana Premier League (GPL), title since the turn of the century with the biggest two in the country Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak dominating.
Between them, the big two have won the diadem 14 times out of the 22 championships that have been contested.
Other clubs that have won the competition, are Aduana FC, Berekum Chelsea, AshantiGold SC, Legon Cities, Medeama SC, FC Samartex 1996 and Bibiani Gold Stars.
Asante Kotoko, have won it seven times within this period, likewise their most bitter rivals on the local scene, Accra Hearts of Oak.
The Porcupines, last won the GPL title in the 2021/22 campaign with Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum in charge.
Asante Kotoko’s other triumphs since 2000, were in 2003, 2005, the 2011/12, 2012/13 and the 2013/2014 competitions.
In all, the Porcupines have won the most championships, 25, since the institution of the Ghana national football league in 1958.
Accra Hearts of Oak, are second on the list of winners with 21 titles, the last of which came in the 2020/21 campaign.
The Phobians, won the GPL in year 2000, 2001 and 2002. They have also claimed the title a further three times in 2004, and seasons 2006/07 and 2008/09.
Aduana FC have two titles since 2000, winning the diadem in 2009/10, the season they joined the Elite Division, and in 2017.
Berekum Chelsea won the championship in the 2010/11 season and AshantiGold SC, in the 2015 campaign.
Wa All Stars now Legon Cities, won the title in 2016; Medeama SC in the 2022/03 season; FC Samartex, 2023/24 and Gold Stars in the just ended campaign.
In the last three seasons, teams based in the Western region, have won the GPL title, underlining a shift in the power base of Ghana football.
