Bibiani Gold Stars over the weekend, became the 14th club to win the Ghana Premier League (GPL), title after winning their last game of the season.
Going into the home fixture with Accra Lions, to he Miners needed to win the game by any margin, and, duly they delivered.
They scored fours past a helpless Accra Lions side at the Dun’s Park, Bibiani to claim their first ever Ghanaian top-flight title, four years after joining the Elite Division.
Gold Stars, finished the 2024/25 campaign with 63 points, three points better than Heart of Lions and Nations FC who placed second and third respectively.
After a promising campaign, Asante Kotoko finished fourth just ahead of their bitter-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak, with both club’s finishing the campaign with 58 points from the 34 matches played.
Gold Stars, won 18 of their matches, drew nine and lost seven to stay ahead of the rest of the competition.
The Miners, scored 38 goals during this successful campaign, and conceded 21 goals.
Only Nations FC and Accra Hearts of Oak, (18), conceded fewer than the newly crowned GPL champions.
Coach Frimpong Manso and his charges, will look to build on this performance going forward with the competition expected to be even tougher next season.
Gold Stars, will represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League competition next season, where the minimum target will be to make it to the group stage.
In the history of the GPL, Asante Kotoko has the most titles, 25, with Hearts of Oak on 21 ahead of AshantiGold SC who have won it four times.
Aduana FC and Accra Great Olympics, have two titles each.
Sekondi XI Wise, Real Republicans, Mysterious Dwarfs, Sekondi Hasaacas, Berekum Chelsea, Medeama SC, FC Samartex 1996 and Gold Stars, have all won the championship once.
