Chairman of the Asante Kotoko Interim Management Committee (IMC), Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua said the club cannot afford to make any more blunders in the lead up to the close of the season.
The Porcupines were knocked out of the MTN FA Cup competition last Sunday by Aduana FC in front of their home fans in Kumasi.
This was a competition they won last season that qualified them to compete in Africa in this campaign.
In the ongoing Ghana Premier League (GPL), Kotoko trail leaders Medeama SC by eight points after 21 matches, and their chances of winning silverware hangs in the balance.
And, the IMC Chairman us concerned about how their campaign has taken a nose dive after making a positive start.
“We can’t afford further excuses", Nana Apinkra told Asante Kotoko Media after their loss to Aduana FC.
That defeat has let to the departure of Abdul Karim Zito as head coach of the club with his assistant Prince Yaw Owusu asked to stand in as interim coach.
“It’s redemption time, and let’s leave the past behind and focus on what is ahead.”
Next on the agenda for Asante Kotoko is a home game in the GPL against their arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday.
Nana Apinkra stated: "We must redeem ourselves on Sunday,” citing Sunday's crucial game at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi.
Kotoko trial Hearts of Oak by a point as they lie in fifth position on the league table.
The record Ghana champions cannot afford to drop points on Sunday if they hope to keep their quest of winning the title going.
