The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) has fixed June 2, 2026 for the next Congress and Elections of the 'dissolved' Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).
New Executives would be elected to stear affairs of professional boxing in Ghana.
The official hand over has been fixed for June 4, 2026 as announced by Chairman of the IMC, Samir Captan in an encounter with journalists in Accra on Tuesday. Mr Captan stressed that the IMC will fully comply by a directive from the National Sports Authority (NSA) to ensure full and proper registration on the deliberation on the entity pursuant to LI 2477-2023 whether to register the entity as an "Association " or "Authority".
He noted that modalities for the independent Medical Commission (MEDAC) are being finalised.
The IMC since it's formation in September 2025, have been working tirelessly to streamline professional boxing in Ghana following it's suspension.
The roadmap to the elections has been divided into phases; the Reform Phase (February- April); incorporation, licensing. insurance rollout, medical protocols, portal launch, constitution amendments, stakeholder registration, regional clinics. training and workshops.
The committee was established on 29th September 2025 by the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and Kofi Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation to improve safety, governance, and professional standards following the suspension of boxing activities in 2025 after the death of two boxers, Nigerian Gabriel Oluwsegun and Ghanaian Ernest Akushey aka 'Bahubali'.
