Asante Kotoko part ways with four players ahead of new football season

Ghana Premier League (GPL) club Asante Kotoko have parted ways with four players ahead of the start of 2026/27 football season.

The Porcupines have informed these players that they are no longer part of the club's plans ahead of the new season.

The players are striker Kwame Opoku,  midfielder Elvis Kyei Baffour, defender   Francis Acquah, and goalkeeper Benjamin Twum.

The four players have been officially notified by the club that they will not continue with the record Ghana champions as the technical team reshapes the squad for the upcoming campaign.

Their departures are expected to pave the way for new additions as Kotoko continue their rebuilding process in preparation for the upcoming season.

Asante Kotoko are continuing with their pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign as they target doing well in the new season.

The club finished eighth in the GPL last season, their worst in the history of the competition in Ghana football.

Ahead of the new campaign, Asante Kotoko will play bitter  rivals Accra Hearts of Oak in the Democracy Cup later this month.

That game, an initiative of the parliament of Ghana, will be played on August 28 at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi.

Asante Kotoko will open their account in the upcoming GPL season with an away encounter against newly promoted Debibi United when the campaign starts on the weekend of September 4-6, 2026.
