Aduana FC in search of a maiden knock out trophy
Huge challenge for the Porcupines
There are no Ghana Premier League (GPL) action this weekend as the MTN FA Cup quarter final ties are cleared.
Asante Kotoko will not be involved in the matches this weekend after they were knocked out in the last round by Aduana FC.
This provides some respite for the Porcupines who will reflect on their campaign so far and make plans for the rest of the campaign.
The GPL is expected to resume with the Matchday 26 matches next week.
Asante Kotoko are fifth on the table with 39 points, seven points behind leaders Medeama SC with nine matches to end the season.
Clearly, they are not out of the running in securing the diadem at the end of the campaign and they have not given up on that ambition. Kotoko's next five league games will determine whether they can win the title or not and, it will be interesting to see how many points they can amass to put pressure on those above them on the table.
When the league resumes, thier first fixture will be against Nations FC, a home encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi.
Asante Kotoko have never beaten Nations FC in the league since they joined the Ghanaian top-flight, and, on current form, this will be a difficult game to negotiate for the Porcupines.
Aduana FC will lie wait for Kotoko in their next game, an away fixture at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park, Dormaa-Ahenkroh.
That is a venue where Asante Kotoko have suffered some embarrassing defeats in the past, and it will not be an easy passage for the record GPL champions.
Kotoko will then return home to host FC Samartex 1996 in Kumasi.
The Garden City club have had the better of the exchanges in games in Kumasi between the two sides, and, they will look to collect the three points.
Another tough task awaits Asante Kotoko after the FC Samartex game as they will trek to Tarkwa to play Medeama SC at the TnA Stadium.
The Mauve and Yellow, are the leaders of the campaign at this moment, and in their quest to win the championship, the home side will look to press home their advantage in front of their fans. Hohoe United handed Asante Kotoko an embarrassing away defeat when they visited the Hohoe Stadium in the first round of the campaign.
The GPL debutants will visit the home of Kotoko, the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, and, they will look to make things difficult for Asante Kotoko.
These upcoming five matches of Asante Kotoko and it's aftermath, will define their status for the reminder of the campaign.
How many points they gather, and the results of the teams above them, will show whether they can challenge for the ultimate after the next five matches in the league.
