Record Ghana champions Asante Kotoko made a winning return to competitive action with an important win in the Ghana Premier League (GPL), on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the competition, Accra Hearts of Oak dropped points at home to dent their championship aspirations with leaders Medeama SC being held to a draw away to FC Samartex all over the weekend.

In the nine matches played, 15 goals were scored with three home wins, two away wins and four drawn games being recorded.

Asante Kotoko beat Young Apostles 2-0 on the road at Wenchi to ease some of the troubles in their camp after setbacks against Aduana FC and Accra Hearts of Oak in the MTN FA Cup competition and the GPL in successive matches.

Reigning champions Bibiani Gold Stars posted a 2-1 away win over Heart of Lions at Kpando to move second on the log, two points behind the leaders.

Lions, are eighth on the table with 30 points having now lost nine of the 23 matches they have played.

Aduana FC were held to a goalless drawn game at home to Hohoe United at Dormaa-Ahenkroh in a highly competitive action.

The Fire Lads are fifth with 38 points with Hohoe United easing some of their relegation struggles despite remaining in the bottom three.

Karela United continued with their recent good form win an important 2-0 win over bottom side Eleven Wonders at Tamale.

The win took their points tally to 34 as they sit seventh on the table with Eleven Wonders very certain to play Division One football next season.

Basake Holy Stars beat Swedru All Blacks 1-0 at home as they moved 10th on the with 29 points with All Blacks 13th with 27 points.

Nations FC drew 1-1 with Dreams FC at Abrankese in a highly competitive game.

Nations FC are 12th with 28 points, with Dreams FC in 14th position with 27 points.
