Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has heaped praises on Kobbie Mainoo for the commanding role he played as they won their first game in the English Premier League (EPL) and Sunday.
The Red Devils, beat Ipswich Town 5-2 at Old Trafford in first home game of the season after losing their opening day fixture at Hull City.
And, Scholes had this to say on the performance of Mainoo as he started the game.
“Sometimes with young midfielders you talk about what they could become. With Kobs, I think people need to start talking about what he already is.
You press him, he gets out. Give him a difficult ball, he kills it. Leave him space and he’ll carry it. The game can be going at 100 miles an hour and somehow when the ball reaches him, it slows down.
That’s the bit you can’t really teach. He doesn’t play like a 21-year-old trying to prove how good he is. He plays like he already knows.
United have spent years looking around Europe for midfielders. Sometimes you have to look at the one who came through your own academy and realise everybody else should be trying to find their Kobbie Mainoo.”
Manchester United next game in the EPL is an away encounter against Everton on Sunday as the season continues.
