Newly promoted Ghana Premier League (GPL) side Debibi United will play their first ever game in the Ghanaian top-flight this weekend as the 2026-27 season gets underway.
United, will host giants Asante Kotoko at the Golden City Park, Berekum on Sunday as they make their bow at the top level of Ghana football.
The newly promoted side will look to start the campaign on a high with victory over their more illustrious opponents who are the record winners of the GPL with 24 titles.
And, they will feel confident of doing that despite playing away from their favourite Debibi Presby Park where they are very formidable.
That venue is where they have played their home matches since the club was founded, and where they have chalked some famous victories.
They host Asante Kotoko at Berekum because the Debibi Presby Park has not been approved yet to host GPL matches.
That notwithstanding, Debibi United will fancy their chances of causing a major upset on the opening weekend of the season against the mighty Asante Kotoko.
In a friendly game played at Asante Kotoko's training grounds at Adako Jachie, Kumasi, they beat the Porcupines when they were preparing to contest for a place in the GPL.
That emphatic 3-1 win, will play in their minds as they host Asante Kotoko in their opening game of the season.
Debibi United will be up for it on Sunday in what could turn up to be the biggest game of the club in the new season.
