University of Ghana Stadium To Host 2025 GHALCA Top Four Pre-season Tournament

The 2025 GHALCA Top Four tournament has been moved to the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon.

The competition which starts on Wednesday, was originally supposed to be held at the Accra Sports Stadium.

This follows an update report from the pitch maintenance consultant Green Grass Technology who has advised that the only CAF/FIFA approved Stadium in Ghana should be preserved solely for the 2026 FIFA Black Stars World Cup qualifier against Mali on September 8.

The Black Stars are expected to begin camping in Accra on August 31 ahead of their World Cup away qualifier to Chad on September 4.

The revised camping schedule of the Black Stars means that the date of local training would be too close to the end of the GHALCA Top Four tournament and this might affect the recovery of the pitch.

The recommendations were made to the National Sports Authority by Green Grass Technology following a routine post match pitch inspection after last Sunday’s Homowo Cup game between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kpando Heart of Lions.

The GHALCA Top Four tournament precedes the commencement of the Ghana football season, and will now kick off on Wednesday at the UG Stadium in Accra.

Asante Kotoko will play the opening game against Bibiani Gold Stars at 3:00 PM before Hearts of Oak faces Heart of Lions at 6:00 PM.
