Ghana Police on manhunt for armed robbers who attacked Berekum Chelsea team on Sunday night

The Ghana Police Service has started a manhunt for the armed robbers who attacked passengers on the Ahyiresu highway on Sunday night.

The attack, led to the shooting and eventual death of a Berekum Chelsea player Dominic Frimpong after he sustained injuries. 

Chelsea, were returning to base in Berekum after honouring a Ghana Premier League match away to FC Samartex at Samreboi.

A statement from the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Monday said, a manhunt is underway for the who attacked passengers along the Ahyiresu-Kwame Dwumor Sresu (KDS) road in the Nyinahin District on Sunday.

The statement was signed by Godwin Ahianyo, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Head of Public Affairs Unit in the Ashanti region.

It said, Police patrol teams responded to distress calls and proceeded to the scene where a VIP bus with registration number AM 9334-20 carrying about 30 football players and officials of Berekum Chelsea from Samreboi to Berekum had skidded into a bush while attempting to escape from six armed men, three of whom were wielding pump-action guns.
