The Ayew family, led by Ghana football legend Abedi Pele and his sons Dede, Jordan and Rahim, joined Asamoah Gyan and his family at the one-week funeral observation for his late father, George Gyan Baffour Mensah.

The funeral gathering was held today, Friday, August 21, 2026, at the New Gbawe Cluster of Schools AstroTurf in Mallam-Gbawe, Accra, where family members, friends and football personalities have gathered to mourn the late George Gyan Baffour Mensah, affectionately known as Asaase J.

Abedi Pele was accompanied by his sons Dede Ayew, Jordan Ayew and Rahim Ayew as they joined the Gyan family for the ceremony.

George Gyan Baffour Mensah passed away on June 29, 2026, at the age of 82 after a short illness.

The family, however, delayed the public announcement of his passing until late July.

The decision was reportedly to allow his son, Asamoah Gyan, to complete his commitments supporting the Black Stars during the 2026 World Cup in the United States.

The one-week observance run from 6:00am to 6:00pm at the New Gbawe Cluster of Schools, and brought together people from different parts of the football community to support the former Black Stars captain and his family.
