Giants Ghana and Nigeria suffer shock defeats in 2027 PAMOJA AFCON qualifiers

There were some surprising results recorded in the second round of matches played on Tuesday in the qualifiers for the 2027 PAMOJA AFCON tournament.

Giants in the African game Ghana and Nigeria where humbled by relatively minor opponents in their respective games.

The Gambia secured a 4-2 win over Ghana in Group C of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers as the Scorpions claimed all three points in their second match.

This was their second win in the group after they beat Somalia 2-1 in their opening game of the campaign on home soil.

Also in the group, Cote D'Ivoire beat Somalia 2-0 in an away encounter to also secure their second win of the qualifiers.

Both Cote D'Ivoire and the Gambia have maximum six points from two matches with Somalia and Ghana yet to register a point.

Minors Guinea-Bissau thrashed superpowers Nigeria 3-0 to record their second win of the qualifiers as they took their points tally to six.

Nigeria have three points from the two matches they have played in their group.

In other qualifiers played on Tuesday, the Red Devils of Congo and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon share the points after a 1-1 draw at the Alphonse-Massamba-Débat Stadium, in a closely contested encounter.

Ethiopia lost 0-1 at home to Senegal in their encounter with Mozambique winning 4-1 against Sudan in a home game.

South Sudan were thrashed 5-0 at home by Egypt as Lesotho lost 0-2 to Morocco at home.

Comoros beat Namibia 1-0 with
Burundi drawing 2-2 at home to Algeria.

Mali and Senegal, all won their games away from home to make a strong statement for qualification.

Mali beat Liberia 1-0; with Senegal winning 1-0 over Ethiopia.

There was an away win for Rwanda who beat Cape Verde 2-1 with Zambia beating Togo 2-0 at home.

Uganda won 1-0 at home to Libya; Benin beat Mauritania 2-1 at home with Gabon winning 2-0 at home to Niger.

Tanzania drew 1-1 away to Madagascar in another high tension game.
