GPL Title Race Wide Open After Penultimate Round Of Matches

The race to win the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League (GPL), title has gone down to the wire following the penultimate round of matches played over the weekend.

Four clubs, Asante Kotoko, Bibiani Gold Stars, Nations FC and Heart of Lions, can all win the title this weekend after the final games of the season are played.

Third placed Asante Kotoko, continued to mount pressure on the top two after their hard-fought 3-2 win over Medeama SC on Sunday.

The Porcupines, are two points behind both Nations FC and Gold Stars after their win at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi yesterday.

Gold Stars, earned a precious away win over Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park, Berekum to keep their hopes of winning a first ever Ghanaian top-flight title alive.

The 3-2 win, moves them to 60 points on the table and, they can win the diadem if they win their last game and, other results favours them.

Also on 60 points, are Nations FC who abandoned their game at the Ampian AAK Sports Arena when trailing Basake Holy Stars by a goal in the first half.

Heart of Lions, beat Bechem United 2-1 at the Kpando Stadium to move to 57 points, and keep themselves in the running for the title.

In other games played on Sunday, Karela United eased some of their relegation worries with a 3-0 home win over Young Apostles at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, Tamale.

They have 35 points, just outside the relegation zone, and, will survive the campaign if they win their last game.

Accra Hearts of Oak, continued with their good form after beating already relegated Legon Cities 2-0 at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon to keep their top four hopes alive.

Sixteen placed Accra Lions, were dealt a heavy blow in their quest to stay up after losing 2-0 to Dreams FC at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Last season winners FC Samartex 1996, beat Aduana FC 2-1 at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena Samreboi to close their campaign at home this season.
