GPL Matchday 32 Matches Produces 17 Goals As Nations FC Nears Historic First Top-flight Title

There was lots of drama and excitement in the Ghana Premier League (GPL), Matchday 32 matches played over the weekend.

In the eight matches played, 17 goals were scored with six home wins and two drawn games.

The action began on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium as Accra Hearts of Oak beat Accra Lions 3-1 in a capital derby.

Enock Esubonteng, Kwasi Asmah and Hamzah Issah, scored for the Phobians with Lawrence Setordjie, getting the consolation for Accra Lions.

Hearts of Oak, have 52 points, but cannot now win the title as they are eight points behind leaders Nations FC with two matches to end the campaign.

Accra Lions remain in the bottom three as they fight to save their season.

On Sunday, Aduana FC beat relegated Legon Cities 4-0 at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park, Dormaa-Ahenkro to move up the stairs.

Goals by Gideon Boateng, Elvis Addo, Kelvin Obeng and Alex Boakye, secured all three points for the ‘Fire Lads’ as they took their points tally to 44 and in ninth position on the table.

Bechem United drew goalless with Basake Holy Stars at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, Bechem as the points were shared.

It was also a stalemate at the Dun’s Park, Bibiani as the game between

Gold Stars and Asante Kotoko failed to produce a goal.

The Miners are three points behind Nations FC with Asante Kotoko five points adrift of the leaders.

Dreams FC won 1-0 at home to Berekum Chelsea at the Tuba Astro Turf, Kasoa to confirm their GPL status for next season.

Joseph Esso scored the lone goal for the home side who are eighth on the table with 46 points with Berekum Chelsea 11th on the ladder with 41 points.

Vision FC beat Karela United 1-0 at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex, Tema to ease some of their relegation worries.

Edward Agyeman’s solitary strike, won all three points for the home side who are now four points above the relegation zone.

Nations FC moved a step closer towards a maiden GPL title with a comfortable 3-0 home win over reigning champions FC Samartex 1996 at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Abrankese-Kumasi.

Emmanuel Annor, Faisal Charwetey and Kelvin Ampofo, were on target for Nations FC who top the standings with 60 points, and, they will be crowned champions if they win their next game.

Young Apostles FC won 3-1 over Heart of Lions to get themselves out of trouble as Samuel Peprah, Foster Saketey and Hussein Issah scored for the home side at the Wenchi Sports Stadium.

Seedorf Asante, scored the consolation for the Heart of Lions who are six points behind leaders Nations FC.

The penultimate round of matches for the 2024/25 season, will be played this weekend with Accra Lions at home to Dreams FC as Asante kotoko hosts Medeama SC.

Berekum Chelsea will be home to Bibiani Gold Stars, Heart of Lions plays at home to Bechem United with Basake Holy Stars hosting Nations FC.

Karela United will play Young Apostles at home, Legon Cities will play Accra Hearts of Oak at home with FC Samartex hosting Aduana FC.
