Asafa Powell promises to assist with tartan tracks for Amasaman OlympiAfrica Sports project

President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah has announced that Jamaican Olympian Asafa Powell has agreed to help obtain tartan tracks for the OlympiAfrica initiative at Amasaman.

“This project shows our determination to enhance sports facilities in Ghana,” he said.

Mr Nunoo Mensah added: “We are working hard to ensure athletes have access to top-notch amenities.”

Asafa Powell is married to a Ghanaian, Alyshia, and the family is ready to support Ghana Sports.

The GOC is making great progress in building sports facilities through the OlympiAfrica Project at Amasaman.

The first phase of the project has been completed, which includes a basketball/volleyball court, a tennis court, and a football field with running tracks.

The project is backed by a $100,000 grant from the OlympiAfrica Foundation, and aims to develop a center for athlete training and community involvement.

Architectural plans, site preparation, and court construction have been carried out successfully, with $79,161 utilized so far.

Preparations for the second phase, which will include a multipurpose sports hall, are progressing well, waiting for a building permit from the Ga North Municipal Assembly.

The project is primarily intended for the Amasaman community, as noted by OlympiAfrica Director Alassane Diack, and it is aimed at children aged five to 15 years.
